
The aim behind The Gift of Language Curriculum is to provide a framework for teachers of First Nations lauguages so that their own languages can be used in their teaching program. Each language group should be able to develop material in their own language and orthography following the outline.

Resource Development
Gift of Language develops Cree language and cultural resources to support language learning in our community. Our work includes books, storybooks, posters, visual materials, vocabulary resources, and curriculum supports designed to strengthen Cree language use and promote the transmission of knowledge, culture, and identity across generations.

Curriculum Development
Gift of Language develops Cree language and culture-based curriculum for our core and immersion core language programs. Our curriculum integrates nēhiyaw language, history, worldview, land-based knowledge, and community teachings while aligning with educational outcomes. Our goal is to Indigenous our current curriculum.

Askīy Pimātisiwin
Gift of Language supports land-based education by creating resources and learning opportunities that connect language, culture, and traditional knowledge to the land. Through seasonal activities, cultural teachings, storytelling, and community knowledge, learners are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of nêhiyaw ways of knowing while strengthening their relationship with the environment, community, and language.

OLCN Timeline
The gift of language researches and documents the history of Onion Lake Cree Nation pre-treaty to current. This includes our past leadership, elders, stories, historical events, and many more.

Recording & Documentation
Gift of Language works to record, document, and preserve nēhiyawēwin through audio recordings, video, stories, conversations, interviews, and community knowledge. By working with Elders, language speakers, and knowledge keepers, we help ensure that valuable language and cultural teachings are preserved for future generations and remain accessible for learning, research, and community use.

Translation & Editing
Gift of Language provides translation, editing, and language review services for Cree language materials, educational resources, publications, signage, multimedia content, and community projects. Working closely with fluent speakers and language specialists, we help ensure that materials are accurate, culturally appropriate, and reflective of local language use.
